Georgian girls are not as popular as other Eastern Europeans, although Georgia (we’re talking about the country in Europe, right?) is becoming a more and more popular tourist destination nowadays.
However, women in Georgia are oftentimes the mysterious type. And they also don’t look Slavic. They offer a nice blend of Balkan looks and Slavic features for a truly unique type of girl – one that you can easily fall for.
They are definitely girlfriend material! In this article, I’m giving you the breakdown on meeting, dating, and keeping a Georgian woman. Read on to find out the truth about these beautiful girls!
Dating Georgian Girls: Where Do You Even Meet Them?
In my experience, the easiest way to meet a nice woman in Georgia is through common friends or the Internet. Online dating has been rising in popularity here nicely and unless you already have friends here, it’s your best bet.
Your best choice would be to sign up for International Cupid. This is my top recommendation and you will find plenty of ladies from Georgia (mostly Tbilisi, it’s true) here. More niched-down websites will offer fewer profiles, including ones like Russian Cupid – surprisingly.
Women on international dating sites are for sure interested in foreigners – so that’s a big bonus for you. Even better is the fact that the competition is much lower than in other corners of the online dating world (aka free services), and chances of stumbling upon a scammer are way lower.
As you will see in today’s article, starting a relationship – or even starting a casual chat – with a lady in Georgia is not as easy as in other parts of the world (or Eastern Europe, that is) so going the online route for those who are already interested is a no brainer.
As a general rule, though, both day and night game are slower and less successful in Georgia than the online route. Women would rarely talk to strangers. Even if she does, it might not lead anywhere – even in discos, girls bring male friends or family members to ward off suitors.
Are Georgian Girls Conservative?
This seems to be a huge stereotype: “Georgia is patriarchal. People are super religious. Parents raise their girls to give birth to as many babies as possible. Everyone is suspicious of foreigners.”
And, frankly, there is some truth to that. Though sexism is nowhere as rampant as it used to be, some things are considered okay… that really wouldn’t be elsewhere. The double standard on female vs male sexuality is just one of the examples.
Assault is still a very big problem. Victim blaming and slut shaming are, too. Pressures of society cause women to be stuck in abusive relationships. Yes, all of these things happen in Georgia.
But no, it is not the general rule.
How Patriarchal Is Georgia Exactly?
Sexism was not even a word in Georgian dictionaries until a few years ago. Yes, really. In rural areas, especially, gender roles can still seem set in stone.
Georgia practices Orthodox Christianity. The Church has gained much influence after the fall of USSR. Most families are religious and practice it at least out of respect.
It’s a very ritual and traditional approach to religion. If you ask young people, most would define themselves as Christian. If you ask further, they’re pretty much agnostics who follow the Church’s rules.
Most Georgian girls see to it that they “maintain their virtue” from a very young age. The community – including big brothers, cousins, aunts, grandmas, and nosy neighbors – will “help” her do that.
Outside the capital, especially, women are under a lot of scrutiny for their private lives. There is virtually no PDA on Georgian streets, and most girls do hold off the physical parts of a relationship until marriage.
The Winds Of Change
Georgian media claims that gender roles are changing fast. Don’t worry, it’s not fast at all. It is subtle but it’s happening.
In Tbilisi, most women are now focused on education, instead of marriage and babies as soon as they reach 18. This is slowly happening in other cities as well.
People are more open to their daughters travelling for school or work. As expat communities are expanding, there is more acceptance of international relationships, too.
It used to be that no Georgian guy would allow his sister or daughter to date someone outside their faith and culture.
Now, Georgian girls are given a lot more independence. It’s still not true equality – the double standards, the expectation of purity, the early marriages, and the acceptance towards abuse still persist.
Little by little, though, Georgian girls are gaining their independence. They certainly deserve it and want this to happen, but like all things that involve traditions… it’s not happening too fast.
But at least there won’t be any older brothers to threaten your life. As long as you don’t hurt her, of course. But I know this blog doesn’t have that kind of an audience!
Double Dates Is The New Normal
Since Georgian society is still so focused on a woman’s reputation, most of the dating process happens in group settings.
But don’t start celebrating yet – this doesn’t mean she will bring her bestie to the bedroom. Far from that. Actually, it will take quite some time before she will decide to visit your house/apartment… let alone spend the night over!
But you’re much more likely to get a chance if you know the girl’s friends. Even with online dates, half of the times, she’d suggest a friend to tag along with you.
Worry not – it’s just normal. This is how things are. This gives her a bit more confidence, although it could be a bit awkward at first.
There are a few reasons why this is the norm:
- Safety – at first, she doesn’t know you. It seems sensible to have someone to watch over.
- Guarding her modesty – in some areas of Georgia, you really don’t want to be seen alone with a guy. In small towns, people gossip and a girl’s reputation can be ruined in a matter of hours. Yes, even if all you did was talk, five feet apart.
- Avoid awkwardness – Georgian girls tend to be a shy bunch. Bringing a friend seems like a good way to keep the awkwardness away. Worst case scenario (for her): she could still chat with her friend. And if there is a language barrier, the other person could also help with that.
No Fun Times on the First Date (or the Second, for That Matter)
Most Georgian girls still live with their parents. Between that and the fact that most dates are group dates or double dates, there is no chance of taking her back to your place.
If you’re just looking for a hookup, you’ve got slim chances of success. Not impossible, but slim.
Otherwise, don’t even think about going together in bed on the first date. A decent girl would be extremely offended at the proposal.
Any girl who isn’t… might not be as pure and innocent as you think she is. Yes, the stereotype sucks.
Since people in Georgia do believe it, though, it’s a great way of weeding out women who are not girlfriend or wife material. If you don’t mind that – again, that’s absolutely no problem. I’m just here to tell you what to expect.
Georgian Girls: Modest Over Sultry
To the untrained eye, Georgian girls can seem downright prudish. Who even wears a button-up shirt and a jacket to a first date. In summer? At a bar?
Georgian women always make sure to guard their modesty. The worst thing you can be perceived as is easy. That’s why they go easy on the form-fitting options, and rarely have their skirts shorter than the knees.
Flirting is also a lot more subtle. Think twice before deciding that she doesn’t like you. She might just be holding off so as not to appear too eager.
Watch the small signs: whether she looks at you for slightly longer, where her feet are pointed, if she seems flustered around you, etc.
As I said – things are starting to change a little bit and generalization like this one does have exceptions. But based on my personal experience, Georgian girls are definitely more on the shy side and very modest especially early on.
Makeout Sessions that Lead Nowhere
Don’t get too excited about a kiss or even a makeout session. To many women in Georgia, it’s ridiculous how fast Westerners move from 0 to 100 (and oftentimes back to 0 immediately after).
You’re not even touching at the beginning of the date but end up spending the night together? That’s not too common in Georgia.
Girls here will tease but rarely please during the dating stage. There is a persistent cultural belief that a woman should remain a virgin until she’s married.
More and more girls break that rule but only with their long-term boyfriends that they expect to marry anyway.
Other than that, making out can be fun but her panties stay on. Nothing below the waist for at least a month of dating. Yes, for real. In most cases, at least.
Society is evolving and things are changing, though. In a couple of years, things could be completely different. Blame the internet, the music, the society itself. (Although I’m sure you’re not going to blame it!)
Meeting The Parents
Meeting Georgian parents is extremely nerve-wracking. First of all, it will probably happen earlier than you’re used to.
Speaking of early, the “I love you” also comes way early, too. Yes, I even say that as an Eastern European. Georgian girls are naïve and they fall for you easily. They also expect the same from you.
But what they are not naïve about is a man’s intentions. Any “good Georgian girl” has limits that she wouldn’t cross in a million years. Though she loves you, she wouldn’t compromise her morale.
Presenting you to her parents and the rest of her family is a part of that moral. Georgian parents are a lot more involved in their children’s love lives than parents in the West.
Chances are, they already know every little detail about you two – from the moment you met to what you ordered on your last date. And in most occasions, winning the parents over gives you a massive advantage.
Georgian Parents Are Protective
Because they worry about their daughter’s reputation and happiness, they would want to meet you very early on. The creepiest story I’ve heard on that was about a mom who just showed up to the first date.
Bear in mind, that’s not a middle school date but it still happened at the mall. My friend and his date were supposed to grab a coffee and go look at the shops (the things you do for a crush).
He gets there and, surprise-surprise, the girl’s mother decided to tag along, since she had dropped her at the shopping center anyway.
While there is no single strategy for impressing parents, the general rules apply:
- Look presentable.
- Act and talk with respect.
- Don’t talk about religion, politics, or your crazy stories from college. Stick to non-controversial topics and try to adjust what you’re saying to the reaction you get.
- If you mess up, no pressure, but expect a serious strain on the relationship. While your romance is not necessarily doomed, a parent’s disapproval is a very big problem. Between you and her family, she would usually choose family. Once again, no pressure, but try not to mess up.
Though dating Georgian girls is difficult (ugh, cultural differences), it’s also amazing. These women love to take care of their guys and it also helps that they are so pretty!
Yes, you might be up for a slower start than you might be used to, but that shouldn’t be a problem, right? At least you do get to be as sure as possible that she’s the right one.
Good luck with them (and remember to share your field reports in the comments below)!
